IEME Provides Accredited Inspection for Northern Rodoanel Rodoanel Construction

Engineering projects and works involve significant investments and require absolute technical rigor, both in their design and execution. Therefore, concessionaires submit their projects and works for evaluation by an Accredited Inspection Body (OIA), recognized by INMETRO, which assesses the inspected object’s compliance with technical requirements and government guidelines.

The Northern section of the Rodoanel Mário Covas (SP-021), managed by Via Appia, is one of these projects, and IEME Brasil is honored to provide accredited inspection services for the works. The section comprises 44 km of track and 107 Special Works of Art (OAEs).

“The purpose of the inspection is to demonstrate that the specified requirements for the infrastructure project are met. It seeks to assess whether the construction stages were executed in accordance with applicable technical standards or norms, whether they contain sufficient content and information for their development sequence, and whether they meet the requirements and criteria associated with the item being evaluated, necessarily considering those set forth in the bidding documents and/or terms of reference, their annexes, and the contract,” explains Alvaro Velloso de Oliveira, director of the Accredited Inspections area at IEME Brasil.

IEME Brasil in Revista Ferroviária

For the sixth consecutive year, the traditional “Revista Ferroviária” brings its readers a diagnosis of the metro-rail market, recording recent projects in the country. The new study, published in the article “Entrando nos Trilhos” (page 40), Nov/Dec 2024 edition, covers the period of one year, ending in December 2024, and highlights five consulting companies, including IEME Brasil and LAEDE, the company’s laboratory arm.

The report highlights IEME’s work in Baixada Santista, such as the homologation tests for the permanent track of section 2 of the Santos VLT and the certification of executive projects associated with railway infrastructure works in Cubatão. In the capital of São Paulo, also mentioned, IEME is working on the executive project and documentation for the permanent track of Line 4-Amarela (Vila Sonia-Largo do Taboão section).

The report also highlights the company’s services in other cities in the country, with emphasis on the instrumented wheelset service and laboratory testing of ballast and sleepers on the permanent track of the Juriti Railway (PA) and Trombetas Railway, in addition to studies and projects for current engineering works (OAC) and drainage and special engineering works (OAE) on the MRS railway network. Page 44 of the magazine contains a complete list of the services performed by the company during the year.

IEME monitors footbridges at the Santo Amaro Metro/CPTM station

Knowing the real dynamic properties of a structure, natural frequencies and vibration modes is essential to ensure comfort and safety for users, as well as predictability for maintenance of public equipment. With this objective in mind, two pedestrian footbridges on the São Paulo subway were monitored by IEME Brasil last March, which used Vibrodina, a mechanical device that makes the structure vibrate at a specific frequency range, in the dynamic forced vibration test.

“The precise determination of the structure’s natural frequency is extremely important for validating theoretical models and ensuring that it does not coincide with the excitation frequencies generated by pedestrian traffic. Avoiding resonance is essential to ensure user comfort and the structural integrity of the footbridge,” explains engineer Marco Juliani, director of IEME.

The footbridges are located at the Santo Amaro station of the São Paulo subway, which is shared by subway lines 5-Lilás (ViaMobilidade) and 9-Esmeralda, of CPTM. They are 111m long and 7.4m wide and are formed by a metal lattice structure with tubular profiles and a steel deck slab. The central span, which crosses the Pinheiros River, is approximately 80m long. The work is the responsibility of EGTC Infra.

IEME Brazil: accreditation maintained

After two years as an Accredited Inspection Body (OIA), IEME Brazil has just undergone a supervisory assessment that resulted in a recommendation to maintain INMETRO Accreditation, which enables the company to certify engineering projects and works prepared by public works concessionaires. It is worth remembering that project inspection is a mandatory contractual requirement for public works concessionaires.

INMETRO Accreditation is one of the service fronts of IEME Brazil, a company with over 35 years of experience in the areas of Engineering Projects (metro-rail systems, bridges, dams, stadiums and structures in general), Urban Development (land regularization, urbanization of settlements, accessibility and social work) and Laboratory Tests (LAEDE) focused on metro-railways, civil structures and shock absorbing systems, elastomers, vibration, noise and construction materials.

Inmetro revalidates IEME Brasil accreditation for inspection of road and rail projects and works

The National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology (Inmetro) has just concluded its annual audit and revalidated the status of IEME Brasil Accredited Inspection Body (OIA), obtained at the beginning of 2023 and now renewed. The revalidation ensures IEME’s compliance with the requirements of the International Accredited Inspection Standard ISO 17020, ordinances from Inmetro and inspection agencies (such as ANTT and Artesp), Inmetro procedures and technical standards applicable to road infrastructure projects. Accreditation is based on a double audit system: an auditor independent of the organization and Inmetro itself.

According to railway and automotive engineer Octavio Camerini, management systems auditor for over 25 years and advisor to the company in the technical revalidation process, the accreditation was confirmed for the scope of inspection of highway and railway projects and works, without the need for authorization from Inmetro to issue inspection certificates. “For the scope of inspection of highway and railway works, it is necessary to involve Inmetro for sample technical monitoring of initial inspections, before issuing the respective certificates, which is part of the normal accreditation process”, he explained. According to him, Inmetro praised IEME’s technical and administrative competence in the accredited inspection of infrastructure projects and made few recommendations for improvement, focused on the management system.

For the specialist, this official and international recognition demonstrates that “IEME follows the most demanding and contemporary requirements of technical and administrative competence for Inspection Bodies of Projects and Works of Highways and Railways, guaranteeing the technical conformity of the project or infrastructure work , its budget forecast and its schedule”.

The most developed countries in the world have already been working with Accredited Inspection for 10 years, guaranteeing the impartial evaluation of the project or work and contributing to the agility and compliance of the implementation of mobility infrastructure in the country. The accreditation obtained by IEME recognizes not only the implementation of ISO 17020 and Inmetro requirements, but also the concessionaires’ procedures, which are gradually demanding compliance with acceptable standards of corporate governance (transparency and anti-corruption practices), social responsibility (inclusiveness) and environmental responsibility (prevention of environmental impacts of the project and infrastructure work).

Important visits at NT-Expo

Many friends, customers and partners were at stand nº B070, located at Rua B, in front of Gate 18 of São Paulo Expo – SP, where the NT-Expo was held from 02/28 to 03/2.

They are professionals and companies with whom IEME has shared many experiences and challenges, in its more than 30 years of experience in the areas of Engineering Projects (metro-railway systems, bridges, dams, stadiums and structures in general), Urban Development (land regularization, urbanization of settlements, accessibility and social work) and Laboratory Tests (LAEDE) focused on subway railways, civil structures and shock absorbing systems, elastomers, vibration, noise and construction materials.

In addition to welcoming friends and customers, our pleasant surprise was seeing everyone’s interest in the Instrumented Rodeiro and the exclusive service we offer in the use of this resource. This is because, despite being widely used in other countries, in Brazil IEME is the only company able to provide this service without the customer having to spend the large amounts necessary to obtain this instrumentation, systems and interpretation of results.

IEME Brasil conquers CGCRE (INMETRO) Accreditation

IEME Brasil has just received the CGCRE (INMETRO) Accreditation from the National Institute of Metrology, Quality and Technology to act as an Accredited Inspection Body (OIA) and inspect projects and engineering works prepared by public and private companies subject to inspection by regulatory bodies. In Brazil, only 13 companies – including IEME – have OIA status.

Engineer Alexandre Verski, general manager of Project Inspection at IEME, who led the company’s team in the accreditation process with CGCRE (INMETRO), explains that, in the concession contracts for a highway, railway or other road work to the private sector, “all engineering projects, before being executed by the concessionaire, must be approved by the agencies” and the OIA is a kind of “CGCRE (INMETRO) representative in the inspection of projects”. Project inspection, therefore, is a mandatory contractual requirement for concessionaires.

From a marketing point of view, the CGCRE (INMETRO) Accreditation opens a new front of services for IEME Brasil, a company with more than 30 years of experience in the areas of Engineering Projects (metro-railway systems, bridges, dams, stadiums and structures in general), Urban Development (land regularization, urbanization of settlements, accessibility and social work) and Laboratory Tests (LAEDE) focused on subway railways, civil structures and shock absorbing systems, elastomers, vibration, noise and construction materials.

All these services, as well as the new line of action of IEME OIA, were presented from February 28 to March 2, 2023 at NT-Expo (São Paulo Expo – SP), one of the main events in South America focused on innovations , technology, products and services in the railway sector.
