The structural evaluation of dams involves characterization of the work, visual inspection, non-destructive tests and monitoring of the structure. The method offers high levels of safety, since it allows comparing the original design with the civil works in operation, revealing critical points, focus of attention and causes of eventual pathologies. The analysis of instruments and the reassessment of their limit values also compose the methodology, adopted in some of the main Brazilian dams.
